Turn a LaTeX equation into an image or link

A snippet is one math formula with a name, rendered in your browser. Use snippets to share an equation by link, or to turn it into an image for slides, a web page or a message. Snippets are separate from projects: they are not inserted into your documents.

  1. Click New snippet in the sidebar. On the home page, you can also use the snippet box under “Need just one equation?”.

  2. Enter a Name, or click Generate a new name.

  3. Type your formula in the LaTeX box. Write the math only, for example:

    \int_{-\infty}^{\infty} e^{-x^2}\,dx = \sqrt{\pi}

If you paste a formula wrapped in $…$, $$…$$, \[…\] or \(…\), Luzbase removes the delimiters for you. The example chips, such as Euler’s Identity or Bayes’ Theorem, fill in a formula to start from.

  4. Check the Preview. Use the zoom buttons to look closer.

  5. Choose whether to Make this snippet public.

  6. Click Create snippet.

Luzbase shows “Snippet created.” and opens the snippet’s page.

Snippets are rendered with KaTeX, so you can use the math commands KaTeX supports. A snippet cannot load LaTeX packages.

Who can see it
Public Anyone with the link. It also appears in Explore snippets.
Private Only you, plus anyone you give the private link to.

Private snippets need a paid plan. On the Free plan the switch shows a Paid marker. See Plans and limits.

If you move to a plan without private snippets, your existing private snippets stay private and you can keep editing them. Once you make one public, making it private again needs a paid plan.

On the snippet’s page:

  • Share copies the snippet’s link.
  • Copy LaTeX copies the formula’s source.
  • Copy private link (for your private snippets) copies a link that lets anyone who has it view the snippet. Only you can edit or delete it.
  • Reset private link makes all old private links stop working. Confirm with Reset link.

When you paste a snippet link into a chat or social post, it shows a preview image of the formula.

  1. On the snippet’s page, open Download.
  2. Set the Image size, the Text color and the Background color, or choose Transparent.
  3. Choose a Format, PNG or JPEG, and a Resolution (DPI): 72, 150, 300 or 600.
  4. Click Download as PNG or Download as JPEG.

JPEG has no transparency, so a transparent background is downloaded with the background colour instead. Choose PNG for a transparent image.

On your snippet’s page, click Edit to change it, then Save changes. Click Delete, then Delete again to confirm; this cannot be undone.

You can create a snippet without signing in. Such snippets are always public.

After you create one, the page shows Save your secret key. The secret key is what lets you edit or delete the snippet later, so copy it and keep it safe; it is stored only in the browser you used. If you sign in later in the same browser, click Claim Ownership on the snippet’s page to move it into your snippets.

You need to be signed in to see these lists.

  • My snippets: click Snippets in the sidebar to see every snippet you own, public and private. Private ones carry a Private badge (“Only you can see this snippet”).
  • Favourites: open any snippet, or find its card in a list, and click the heart (Add to favourites). Click Favourite snippets in the sidebar, or the Favourites tab, to see them all. Click the heart again (Remove from favourites) to take one off the list.
  • Explore: click Explore snippets in the sidebar, or the Explore tab, to browse public snippets from everyone on Luzbase.

Every list has Search… (by name), a sort menu with Newest first and Oldest first, and a grid or list view.

To see all of someone’s public snippets, click the author’s name on one of their snippets. This list is the only public page about a Luzbase user; there are no profile pages.
