Discussions

Discussions are conversation threads attached to a project. Use them to agree on structure, ask a co-author to check a proof, or keep a to-do list for a submission. Every member can take part, including Viewers.

  1. Open the project and go to the Discussions tab.
  2. Click New (or Start a discussion if the project has none yet).
  3. Enter a Title, for example “Which journal template do we use?”.
  4. Write the Body. The toolbar has bold, italic, underline, inline code, lists, quotes, links and inline math.
  5. Click Create discussion.

Each discussion gets a number, such as #3, and its own link that you can share with other members.

Open a discussion, type in Write a reply… and click Reply. You can edit your own replies later.

Type @ followed by a member’s name to mention them, for example:

@Kenji Sato could you check the bound in Lemma 2?

A mention matches a member’s full name, their first name (when no other member shares it), the part of their email address before the @, or their whole email address. Matching ignores upper and lower case. Mentioned members are highlighted and get a “mentioned you” notification.

There is no pop-up list of names while you type, so write the name out. Mentions work in discussions only, not in pull request or version comments.

  • When the question is settled, click Resolve. Click Reopen to open it again.
  • Filter the list with All, Open or Resolved. The tab shows how many discussions are open.

Only the person who started a discussion, or the project owner, can resolve, reopen or delete it.

Open the discussion and use its delete button, then confirm. Deleting a discussion removes it and all its replies permanently. You can delete your own replies; the project owner can delete anyone’s.

Luzbase notifies the people involved, never the person who acted:

Event Who is notified
A new discussion The project owner, and anyone mentioned
A reply The person who started the discussion, everyone who replied, the owner, and anyone mentioned
Resolved or reopened The same people as for a reply

See Notifications for how these arrive and how to turn the emails off.

  • Discussions belong to the whole project. They are not attached to a file, a line or a branch.
  • A title can be up to 255 characters.
  • In an archived project, discussions are read-only.
  • To comment on a specific saved version, use the comments on the version in History. To review changes on a branch, use a pull request.
