Create a template

Your own templates keep the classes, styles and starter files you reuse in one place, so every new paper, report or thesis starts the same way. Templates you create are private, which means they are not listed in Explore. Private templates are included on every plan.

There are three ways to create one.

  1. Go to Templates and click New template.
  2. Under Start from, choose Upload files.
  3. Drop a folder, files or a .zip onto the dialog, or use Choose files or Choose folder.
  4. Enter a Name (for example “Lab report”) and choose a Category.
  5. Check the Main file: the file a compile starts from.
  6. Click Create template.

Luzbase uploads and checks the files, then builds a preview. You see “Template created. Preview is building.” and the template opens in the template editor.

Use this to turn a project you have polished into a starting point for the next one.

  1. Open the project and click Save as template in the project header. You can also go to the project’s Settings, choose Export & templates and click Save as template…, or click Save a project as template on the Templates page.
  2. Check the Project and choose the Branch to copy files from.
  3. Enter a Name, choose a Category and check the Main file.
  4. Click Save as template.

Luzbase copies the files of that branch into a new private template, shows “Saved as template.” and opens the template’s page. Later changes to the project do not change the template.

You need to be the owner or an Editor of the project to save it as a template.

  1. Go to Templates and click New template.
  2. Under Start from, choose Blank (“A minimal main.tex to edit here.”).
  3. Enter a Name and choose a Category, then click Create template.

Add your files in the template editor. See Edit a template.

On any template’s page, click Make a copy. The copy is a private template in My templates that you can change freely. Check the original’s license before you share your copy.

These limits are the same on every plan.
