Edit a template
The template editor works like the project editor: a file tree on the left and the editor in the middle. Your edits form a draft until you save, so projects started from the template keep getting the last saved version while you work.
Open the template editor
Section titled “Open the template editor”- Go to Templates, then My templates.
- Open your template and click Edit. On a card, you can also use the … menu and choose Edit.
Edit files
Section titled “Edit files”- Click a file in the tree to edit it. Add, upload, rename, move and delete files from the tree, as in a project.
- To mark the file that compiles start from, right-click a
.texfile (or open its … menu) and choose Set as main file. - To replace files in bulk, click From .zip and choose a .zip, then pick what to do with it:
- Replace all files: the draft becomes exactly what is in the .zip.
- Add and update: files in the .zip are added, or overwrite files with the same path; the rest stay.
The toolbar shows Unsaved while you have edits that are not saved to the template yet, and which version is live, for example “v3 is live”.
Edit the details
Section titled “Edit the details”Click Details to open the template’s details. Changes here save as you make them.
| Field | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Name | Up to 100 characters |
| Description | What the template is for and what it includes, up to 2,000 characters |
| Category | For example Thesis, Journal article or Report |
| License | LPPL 1.3c, CC BY 4.0, MIT, CC0 or Other |
| University | Optional, for university formats |
| Tags | Up to 10, each up to 32 characters: letters, digits and hyphens |
| Main file | The file a compile starts from |
| Engine | Automatic, pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX |
| Visibility | Private or Public. Click Change… to switch; see Publish a template. |
Choosing an engine other than Automatic writes a magic comment at the top of the main file, replacing any that was there. Choosing Automatic removes it. For example:
% !TEX program = xelatex\documentclass{article}Projects started from the template keep that line, so they compile with the same engine. See Compilers and TeX Live.
Check your changes
Section titled “Check your changes”- Preview shows the compiled PDF next to the editor.
- Test compile (private templates) compiles your draft without making it current, so you can check it before saving.
- Test in new project (private templates, and public ones not yet published) starts a new project from the template’s current version, so you see exactly what a new project gets. Save first; unsaved edits are not included.
Save a new version
Section titled “Save a new version”Click Save.
- Private template: the draft becomes the new current version at once, for example “Saved. v3 is now current for you.” New projects use it from then on.
- Public template: your changes are saved as a draft (“Draft saved. Nothing goes live until it is reviewed.”). The live version stays in Explore until Luzbase approves the update. See Publish a template.
If the draft does not compile, Luzbase warns you with “This version doesn’t compile” before saving. Click Keep editing to fix it, or Save anyway.
To throw away every change since the last saved version, click Discard draft. The files go back to the live version.
Delete a template
Section titled “Delete a template”On the template’s page, open the … menu and choose Delete…, then Delete template. It disappears from your templates and from Explore. Projects already created from it keep their files.
Download a template
Section titled “Download a template”On your own template’s page, open the … menu and choose Download .zip to get all its files.
