Delete your account

Deleting your account is permanent and happens straight away. There’s no grace period and no undo. Read what it removes before you start.

  • Your account and your sign-in details
  • Every project you own, including projects you share with other people
  • All your snippets, public and private
  • Your memberships in other people’s projects
  • Any paid subscription. It ends at once and isn’t refunded for the unused part of the period.

What you wrote in other people’s projects stays in those projects. It’s shown as written by “Deleted user”.

  • Keep your work. Download the source of any project you want to keep. See Download and export.
  • Hand over shared projects. If collaborators still need a project you own, make one of them the owner first. Otherwise the project is deleted for them too. See Transfer ownership.
  • Have your codes ready. You need your password (if your account has one) and, with two-factor on, a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code.
  1. Open your avatar menu and click Profile.
  2. Under Danger zone, click Delete account.
  3. In Delete your account, type your email address where it says Type your email to confirm.
  4. Enter your Password, if your account has one.
  5. If you use two-factor authentication, enter a Two-factor code.
  6. Click Delete account permanently.

You’re signed out everywhere and see “Your account has been deleted. We sent a confirmation to your email.”

If the dialog says you own a team that still has other members or a plan, click Go to your team and transfer or delete the team first.

There’s no self-service download of all your account data. To ask about your data, use the Privacy and your data topic on the contact form.
