Create a project

A project holds all the files of one document. You can start it empty, from a template, or from a .zip of an existing LaTeX project.

You need a confirmed email address to create a project.

  1. Click New project on the projects dashboard, or Create project in the sidebar.
  2. Enter a Name (up to 255 characters).
  3. Optionally, enter a Description (optional) (up to 350 characters). It appears on the project card and the project page.
  4. Under Start from, choose how to begin:
  5. Click Create project (or Import project for a .zip).

Luzbase shows Project name created., adds you as the project’s Owner and opens the project page. The project’s first saved version is called “Create project”.

Pick the Blank tile (“Blank · an empty main.tex”). It is selected by default. The project starts with a single main.tex that compiles to a page with a title and the text “Start writing here.”

Under Template, the picker has these tabs:

Tab What it lists
By Luzbase Official templates, including general layouts and university thesis and journal formats
My templates Templates you made
Team Templates shared with your team, if you’re in one
Recent Templates you used recently (shown only if there are any)

Use Search templates… to narrow the list, or Browse all templates to open the full gallery. If you started from a template’s page, it is already chosen; click Change to pick another.

Luzbase copies every file of the template into your new project and uses the template’s main file as the project’s main file. Changes to the template later don’t affect your project. The project’s Overview shows which template and version it was created from.

See Use a template.

Item Limit
Project name 255 characters
Description 350 characters
Number of projects Depends on your plan. See luzbase.com/pricing.
Files per project branch 500

Your projects’ files count towards your account’s storage, which depends on your plan. See Supported file types and limits and Plans and limits.

Luzbase has no “duplicate project” button. To copy a project, save it as a template, then create a new project from that template. See Use a template.
